Today saw Year 13 History and Tourism/Geography students from Marian College in Christchurch visit the museum. While the historians got to grips with the archives the geographers were given a guided tour of the Chinese Village before hearing a talk about changes in tourism in the Queenstown area over time.

After lunch the historians also visited the Chinese settlement before more work in the archives. Students worked out the archival system pretty quickly and were soon finding lots of useful information and both primary and secondary sources.

We enjoyed your visit and hope you did as well! Post us a comment on this blog.

Thanks to Rachel and all the staff at the museum-we had a a really productive visit and the girls all enjoyed themselves. It was great to see the historians learn to use the archives ( wearing the white gloves and discovering treasures!) The geographers survived the cooler temperatures at the Chinese village and found the tourism information very helpful. All the students found the visit interesting and of value to them for their assessment tasks. We always find our results are better when the girls have been on this fieldtrip, and so we will definitely be back next year.

Huge thank you to rachel for all her help that day! i was doing both history and geography and you were an amazing help in both subjects! Rachel was always willing to help and show us new archives! It was an awesome day, and having Rachel there to help us was a huge help as she was like a human dictonary on Central Otago and the mining! Everything we needed to know, she had an answer for! Thanks heaps and also all the museum staff were lovely! :)

Thank you so much Rachel for all your help! You were a great help on the day; you had lots of great, useful information and full of friendly advice. The tour of the Chinese huts was also really interesting, and very informative. It was my favourite part of the whole trip. The museum displays were also really well done, and full of lots of interesting facts.
Thank you especially for helping me out afterwards, and going to the trouble of finding me particular information in the Arrowtown archives once we were back in Christchurch; it's very much appreciated, and has helped me out heaps. Thank you so much!
