Millers Flat's marvellous day out!

Brave Miners!

  • Millers Flat's marvellous day out!Brave Miners!
  • Millers Flat's marvellous day out!Who is in here???
  • Millers Flat's marvellous day out!How many can get in the long drop?

Today saw the last school of 2012 for the education programme - MILLERS FLAT! Here to learn all about gold they participated in several activities all linked to the early miners!

Firstly they viewed the GOLD 150 exhibition and completed a worksheet, then they explored the museum...what did the man on the toilet say? how did they get around on the goldfields?

Next they went to the Chinese village where they saw the huts the Chinese miners lived in. Can you remember some of the things the huts were made from? And what the first (big) hut was used for?

Lastly they panned and cradled for GOLD in the Arrow River!! Most students were lucky and found a little speck in the bottom of their pan!

We hope you enjoyed your visit to us and look forward to seeing your comments on this blog!!

Although the weather was not the best the children had a great day. Children thoroughly enjoyed visiting the museum & yes, the man on the toilet was very amusing. Great that the children found gold when panning. They were very pleased & somewhat amazed that it seemed so easy!! Excellent ed programme at the museum You did a good job Rachael. Many thanks for a great day out!!

I hope we can come back next year to do more history with you. The man on the toilet said can't you see I am busy, people moved around the goldfields walking or on a horse/bullock & cart. The first big hut was for a shop & storage for gold before it went into Arrowtown to the bank.
I had a great day but I didn't find gold.

The man on the toilet said:OI go away!!

In the olden days they got around on carriages but the most popular way to get around was by foot because it is free.

The first hut was Ah Lum's shop & the others were homes.

At Arrowtown it was the best school trip ever thank you!!

1 Oi get out can't you see I'm busy
2 By walking around and having horses to pull their wagons
3 Canvas, sticks, tin, sacks and wire
4, A shop and home to Ah Lum

The day was really fun, as you got to see the huts for real. You also got to do some gold panning and when you found the gold you got to keep it.

The man on the toilet said ' Oi get out of here can't you see i'm busy?!"

The miners got around by foot or horses.

The first hut was a shop and was made from mud and stone mostly.

The most fun part for me was gold panning even though i didn't get any gold.
