Remarkables re-live the rush!

Lights, camera, action...

  • Remarkables re-live the rush!Lights, camera, action...
  • Remarkables re-live the rush!Which method of mining is this?
  • Remarkables re-live the rush!Cold fingers?!

Today saw the first of three visits by Remarkables Primary school Year 5 & 6 classes. They came to the museum already full of lots of knowledge about life on the goldfields and impressed the educators with their answers!

Students participated in the GOLD programme, three activites about the goldrush of the 1860s. They searched for all things gold in the museum, walked up Buckingham street looking at old buildings from the goldmining era and finally reacted the life of a miner...washing clothes in the freezing Arrow River, digging a long drop, making butter and of course panning for gold!

We hope you had a good time and look forward to hearing your stories on this blog!

I really enjoyed Gold Panning in the Arrow river and I was lucky enough to be the first person to find a little piece of gold.

I really enjoyed the Gold Panning, it helped me completely understand the technique needed for panning. You need a lot of patience! I found that when panning black sand is a good sign, and that you had to be lucky to find any gold. But the gold that we found was only worth $2 max.

Yesterday remarkables primary school and I went to arrowtown to learn about gold mining. I lernt so much in the time I was there, sadly I did not manage to get any gold when I was panning.

That was so fun, allthough I did not find any gold it was sad. All the fake people were really scary and the bank which is now the museum had bars on the windows.

It was amazing that I found gold in the arrow river! There was a lot of huts in the Chinese village, and they were all different. One was connected to a rocky hill!
