Kia ora koutou katoa... hello to all!

I am the new Education Officer here at Lakes District Museum. My name is Anneliese and I'm a born and raised Aucklander *pause for JAFA jokes*.

I am genuinely so happy to be here. I LOVE museums and have been working, studying and volunteering my way to a job like this over the past five years!

A bit of background info about me- I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology and ancient history, an Honours degree in anthropology specialising in Polynesian archaeology and, just completed in November 2014, a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (primary).

I worked at Auckland Museum as a Visitor Host during my undergraduate degree and for the last year or so at Voyager Maritime Museum as a Visitor Experience Host and as a intern in the Education Department. For the past two years I have also been a volunteer with Museums Aotearoa where I have helped with the conferences, surveys and regional meetings. To all the people I have met, conversations I have listened in on, experiences I have been awarded etc. I am eternally grateful. Special thanks must be noted to Phillipa Tocker of Museums Aotearoa and Karen Walters of Voyager Martime Museum.

My interests/hobbies include Māori and Pasifika cultures and languages, camping, tramping, cycling, traveling, cooking, geocaching and visiting any (all) museums I come across. I have just spent the New Years break camping in Taranaki with my partner, Sam, where we did most of the above. Sam, who works in Physio, will be joining me down here at the end of the month. We can't wait to explore the area together!

So that's me. If you have any questions (or handy tips) feel free to drop me a comment below. I look forward immersing myself in the South Island way of life and am so excited to start my career in the field of my passion.

Cheers, Anneliese
