Brave Miners!
Today saw the last school of 2012 for the education programme - MILLERS FLAT! Here to learn all about gold they participated in several activities all linked to the early miners!
Firstly they viewed the GOLD 150 exhibition and completed a worksheet, then they explored the museum...what did the man on the toilet say? how did they get around on the goldfields?
Next they went to the Chinese village where they saw the huts the Chinese miners lived in. Can you remember some of the things the huts were made from? And what the first (big) hut was used for?
Lastly they panned and cradled for GOLD in the Arrow River!! Most students were lucky and found a little speck in the bottom of their pan!
We hope you enjoyed your visit to us and look forward to seeing your comments on this blog!!

I hope we can come back next year to do more history with you. The man on the toilet said can't you see I am busy, people moved around the goldfields walking or on a horse/bullock & cart. The first big hut was for a shop & storage for gold before it went into Arrowtown to the bank.
I had a great day but I didn't find gold.

In the olden days they got around on carriages but the most popular way to get around was by foot because it is free.
The first hut was Ah Lum's shop & the others were homes.

The day was really fun, as you got to see the huts for real. You also got to do some gold panning and when you found the gold you got to keep it.

The first hut was a shop and was made from mud and stone mostly.
The most fun part for me was gold panning even though i didn't get any gold.
Although the weather was not the best the children had a great day. Children thoroughly enjoyed visiting the museum & yes, the man on the toilet was very amusing.
